Our carpenters are skilled at removing damaged boards and replacing them with new ones to create an invisible repair. For a prefinished floor, this is often the only step necessary. Generally, but not always, on an unfinished floor, refinishing is needed to blend the new wood.
Sanders are and difficult to control. In untrained hands, they can bounce along a floor, causing “chatter marks” or dig too deeply into the wood causing uneven spots and shortening a floor’s life. Our craftsmen are schooled well in the proper handling of these cumbersome machines to remove only the amount of material necessary to smooth the floor and prepare it for staining.
We offer dustless sanding, a real convenience if you are living in your home while the hardwood floor rejuvenation is being done.
One of our specialties is custom stains. A simple Oak floor can take on the look of the most exotic species through the application of a stain. There is no end to the looks that can be created through the mixing of pigments of different colors. Read more on Hardwood Flooring Repair & Rejuvenation.
We are ardent preservationists and strive to spare historic materials whenever possible. Using a gentle touch, we give new life to old floors, often saving floors that other companies have suggested demolishing. The patina of old growth wood contributes a warm glow that is impossible to reproduce. We keep supplies of recycled wood for patching and have many sources for Antique woods, both reclaimed from old buildings and from the bottoms of deep rivers. If your floor is losing its shine due to wear, we can scuff sand the top layer and add a coat of finish to renew its original look. This process does not repair damaged boards, nor sand out scratches, but does add protection to a floor that is in good shape to help prolong its life and beauty. A floor that is maintained by frequent recoatings could go for decades without needing to be sanded or replaced.
We offer deep cleaning performed by wood flooring professionals who understand the delicate relationship between wood and water. Water can cause damage to all wood, yet, it is a superior cleaning agent. Our special equipment allows us to lay down exactly the amount of water needed to thoroughly wash and rinse a floor so that it is squeaky clean, and pick it up again before it has the chance to permeate the floor’s protective finish.
